If 2017 was any indication, TheHouse is poised for a huge New Year. They’ve been putting numbers on the board, dropping fire single after fire single all year, until they straight-up shattered the backboard with their new EP “FOUR TWO THREE.”
Originally conceived in Murfreesboro, TN during the dorm days of Isaiah Rashad, YGTUT, and Michael Da Vinci, TheHouse soon grew into a blend of childhood and college homies with members hailing from each region of Tennessee. The collective is composed of a tight-knight crew of exceptional producers and exemplary rappers that defy categorization.
Each emcee has their own dynamic flows and set of idiosyncrasies. You’ll never mistake any of these dudes for one another. In light of their great year, we linked up with (most of) the gang to get a quick introspective and retrospective look at the group.
YGTUT
How did you first get down with TheHouse?
Isaiah Rashad, Mikey D and I are the co-founders of TheHouse. TheHouse was formed in our freshmen year of college at MTSU. It started out as the squad. We just happened to rap too.
What’s your most memorable moment with members?
To me there are a lot of memorable moments, so it’s hard to just narrow it down to one. But shit, we just be wilding out all the time. Every time we link up, some crazy shit happens. You gotta come around.
What makes you different than other members of TheHouse?
I’m just me. We all have different strengths and weaknesses. I think that’s why we work. I guess what makes me different is where I come from, and just how I move. I stay true to myself. I really want to be an influential voice for my generation. We’re all different in our own right. Who wants to be the same?
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from another member?
Isaiah has given me a lot of gems along the way I ain’t ‘gon lie. And Tiggi too, just from a producers perspective. He’s prolly pushed me the most out of anybody. He always stays on me about being disciplined in my recording process.
What makes TheHouse unique?
It’s not just a collective of rappers, we have producers too. Everything is in house. We just move different. We tryna make timeless shit. Not just living in the moment. Our fans may not know yet but I hope they ready for what we have in store.
Brian Brown
How did you first get down with TheHouse?
I had moved to Chatt in like the fall of ‘15 after going back & for between there & the ‘Ville, working on music with Tigg. We just started making some of my best shit that helped me develop into who y’all hear now. Eventually, CP & Tigg were talking about who’s in TheHouse and they were like, “Aw yeah you down.” It’s probably a bit more detailed than that, but that’s really the gist of it
What’s your most memorable moment with members?
I got two of ‘em.
First one, on my 23rd birthday we threw a house party for myself and ParkAve, who was living in the crib with us at the time. We had a god damn ball. Got so fucking drunk. Had a jam session at like 1 in the morning, my homie and roommate at the time Jared White started playing bass, and Kev got the freestyling. I only made it through one.
The other would be Zay’s homecoming show off the Lil Sunny Tour. Shit was so fye to watch. All the Jameson & backwoods. His family so solid too. Just really good energy to be around.
What makes you different than other members of TheHouse?
The fact that I’m from Nashville. I got fam in Chatt, my Dad is actually from there and a lot of his side of the family still resides there, so I was like the distant cousin coming in. Other than that, not too much. We’re all alike in these weird ass ways. It’s an interesting dynamic to have between all of us
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from another member?
Isaiah once told me, “Trust ya spine. Ya spine is what told you not to go out that one night. Ya spine is what told you to put that rubber on. Ya gut just get you in trouble.”
It’s stuck with me ever since. Also, pretty much anything Tigg has said seems really prophetic in the long run.
What makes TheHouse unique?
Everybody is themselves. What you hear on a song or see in a video or on Instagram is the same thing you’re gonna get if you ever meet us. We just wanna make the most fye jams ad be ourselves. Can’t beat that. We all bounce ideas well off each other. Always love when we’re all together. It’s a South thing. A Tennessee thang.
What’s it like being the rookie of the crew?
Uhh, it’s interesting. I honestly never thought I’d be apart, nor was it my intentions. Tigg & I just really work well together, but it’s legit tight as fuck.
Like, the big brothers I ain’t ever had. They always keep me on my shit and I hope I keep them on theirs. I ain’t usually the butt of the jokes, but they stay catching me sleep or drunk so that’s kind of weak. But even with that, I love it. Can’t none of ‘em beat me in 2K neither besides maybe CP.
Michael Da Vinci
How did you first get down with The House?
As a founding house member myself, Tut and Isaiah began running with something when we were in college. We didn’t know what we had, but we knew it was something. It all just came as a whole when we were all together.
As Isaiah and Tut began getting progressively better, TheHouse name stuck, and Chris P and Tiggi and a few other producers at that time just made the rest of the collective complete with Brown coming in as the most current.
What’s your most memorable moment with members?
To think of one specific memory with the homies would be damn near impossible, because every time we all come together it’s pure comedy and weed smoke. But, the most recent memory with the whole team being there was Isaiah’s last show here in Chattanooga, and I don’t believe we’ve all squaded up since, but we are normally together whether it’s by the 2-3 or 4-5.
What makes you different than other members of The House?
When you ask about me from my brothers, they’d probably say I’m fairly chill always good energy though. I will acknowledge my very quick ability to get into a whole lot of nothing in a heartbeat. I don’t get distracted but I tend to be with the extra curricular activities more then others like, I’ll bar hop all night then come back and write just for the shits.
Musically what makes me different is my voice and my capability to inflict on certain words and energy. I’m a rappers rapper in the simplest technical way possible, so sometimes it’s hard to just not rap and just swag my ass off, so I still work on it along with a ton of other stuff.
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from another member?
The most valuable thing you can take from any of us is lessons through watching each other from trial and error. If you put down your vices and put that same amount of energy into what you desired, you’d come out on top if done correctly to name a small portion.
What makes TheHouse unique?
TheHouse is unique because we’ve been doing this during the short era where SoundCloud was popping and streaming didn’t account for success and also bridged over into this new formula and finding our way to crack the codes into the new age of the rap game. Also, we are real southern lyrical dudes but have way more fun compared to the guy who hates every trap rapper walking and hates anything short of their own stuff.
I think we as a whole can truly rap on any style beat and flip that bitch but I’ll just stop there and we show everyone what we can do.
Park Ave
How did you first get down with TheHouse?
I first got down with TheHouse back in 2013. Tut found my SoundCloud account randomly, and then hit me up about a beat I posted and we’ve been tight ever since.
What’s your most memorable moment with members?
I can’t really pick anything as the most memorable moment, but one of the most interesting was when we had went up to Knoxville for a festival called Vallopalooza and Tut and everyone killed it. I was kinda sick the whole time, but I had fun. And then the ride back home with the homie Mikey D was just the worst.
What makes you different than other members of TheHouse?
My uncanny ability to avoid all forms of intoxication. The holy life is the only life, ya heard?
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from another member?
The most valuable thing I’ve learned from a member is that I’m a much better producer than I give myself credit for. I used to not know if I was being modest or simply lacking confidence in myself. Everyone always assured me that I have what it takes.
What makes TheHouse unique?
TheHouse is unique because it isn’t forced or fake, these guys are family. We build each other up and that’s what a lot people lack these days. Plus the rappers can actually rap. Like, really rap.
What’s your favorite song you’ve produced for TheHouse?
My favorite song that I’ve produced for TheHouse has to be “Supersize” by Tut. If I didn’t make that beat, I truly doubt that I would be where I’m at right now because that got Tut’s attention and made him contact me. Without it, who knows if I would even know these guys right now.
D. Sanders
How did you first get down with TheHouse?
I went on the smokers club tour with Zay and Mikey back in 2012.
What’s your most memorable moment with members?
One of them has to be when we were all together in college at Mikey’s crib, and all the crazy stuff that would happen over there.
What makes you different than other members of TheHouse?
Me not being from Chatt, like everyone else.
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from another member?
The whole crew has helped me grow as and artist and creative and to have the confidence and comfortably to do/try whatever.
What makes TheHouse unique?
We aren’t like your ordinary crew, it’s a collective of some misfits just tryna make good music.
What’s your favorite song you’ve produced for TheHouse?
My favorite house track would be “Hii” but there will be more in the future most definitely.
Shoey
How did you first get down with The House?
Being associated with Tut, pretty much. Me and him have been childhood friends since way back to Middle School.
What’s your most memorable moment with members?
The Duncan Ave days. It was a time when we all were in a crib together. Michael da Vinci would mostly be in Murfreesboro at the time, but it was definitely the link up spot for all the homies. It’s where “Preacher Son” was made, and where “Long Day” was recorded.
What makes you different than other members of The House?
I do pretty much everything else but rap.
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from another member?
Quality is everything, don’t rush it!
What makes TheHouse unique?
No one sounds alike. Everyone has their own style. That’s the uniqueness of TheHouse.
Chris P.
How did you first get down with TheHouse?
It starts for me with my relationship with Zay, we’ve been close for a real long time. We went to the same school, same church, and stayed less than 5 mins from each other. We got really tight when he was 17 and I was 18. Couple years later he moved to Murfreesboro and that’s when him Mikey D and Tut got connected with music.
One day we were all in Zay’s driveway smoking and the conversation was starting TheHouse. I made the comment, Damn I wanna be in it,” and their response was “You already in it, what you talking bout?”
Since then, it’s been TheHouse for me.
What’s your most memorable moment with members?
It’s too many memorable moments with these guys. Their really my brothers so aside from being on stage with any of them or just our daily smoke and chill sessions the two times that stick out the most is when we as TheHouse actually had our first show in Chatt and when Zay’s Suns Tirade Tour came to Chatt.
What makes you different than other members of TheHouse?
What makes me different from the rest is I’m literally the epitome of cool. Tut use to say I’m too cool for everything. Not saying my bros ain’t cool cause I’d like to say we all have our own sense of style and taste in the culture. Aside from that i have a real love for the 90s and early 2000 era so I pride myself on good raps when I’m making a song while some of us in the squad has this great gift of putting together great songs in general whether its raps on it or not.
What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from another member?
I learn a lot from my bros but two things that’s stuck with me over these years is how you have to prioritize and constantly record. Between Tut and Zay they have the best work ethic when it comes to recording. The other one is learning to not leave the studio or session your in without completing whatever you started. That comes from Zay.
What makes TheHouse unique?
Aside from the fact we have this conglomerate of great producers and artist the fact we genuinely have a real bond and friendship outside of music is one of the best dynamics about us. Like people wanna really be around us cause they can feel the bond and brotherhood we share. And we are the south..like you have ASAP and other squads our but we the newness our the south and we coming to just be ourselves and that’s TheHouse..
