Dallas-based R&B artist The Vujà Dé has come a long way from the SoundCloud mixes and beat packs he was creating almost three years ago to supplement his artist debut.
After emerging on to the alternative urban market with the release of his seminal 11-track Another Life release, The Vujà Dé began experimenting with his sound by pushing his boundaries as an already capable producer.
Ahead of his 2020 Dive In album, The Vujà Dé began hand crafting a healthy community on SoundCloud off the strength of his “Vumixes,” which featured vocals from artists such as Teedra Moses and Jadakiss inlaid with funky, groovy production.
That mix in particular actually garnered the attention of Teedra Moses who commented on the post by giver her co-sign and writing that the mash-up, "Warmed her heart."
During the process, The Vujà Dé was also recording over beats his clients skipped over, like he did with his fan-favorite “Bad” single, which eventually helped him figure out the sonic direction he wanted to take his next offering in.
"My song 'Bad' wasn’t originally for my project, I made the track to be a part of a beat pack I was sending out to artists," The Vujà Dé told Elevator. "When it got no bites, I decided to throw some vocals on it. That’s really what most of the songs from the album are — orphan beats that never found a home so I decided to raise them into full songs myself. Sonically, it’s very west coast inspired. Lyrically, it’s about a girl with daddy issues who I’m trying to heal. What would John Mayer sound like over some 808’s and a trap beat?” he said.
In addition to “Bad,” his new All My Reasons album includes 11-tracks written, produced and recorded by the vocalist himself.
