Gearing up for the November 2nd release of his debut solo album The Last Rocket, Takeoff dropped off the Monstabeatz-produced single “Last Memory” on today. It’s the Takeoff fans know and love, but just without his family members from Migos though they both will likely get a placement on the album.
The group has enjoyed an enormous amount of growth and fame in the last two years, especially Quavo and Offset. Takeoff’s album title is a hint toward the fact that he has yet to take off (pun intended) and reach their popular status, but this album will certainly propel him in that direction. He never seemed as concerned with the acclaim, but rather consistently putting out great music.
His flow, wordplay, and ad-libs are loved by fans, and he has been an anchor for their music since the early days when Offset was locked up. Now is his time to show the world he isn’t the most forgettable member, and provide some support for the argument some make that he is the best or most important person in the group.
This song isn’t the normal, high energy music from Migos that many are used to. Takeoff feels composed as always, yet deep in thought. There are a lot of things in the industry, such as the groupies and haters, who try to take away from his focus and success. He references conversations he has with God and how the Devil works against him. He keeps the women at bay with the white, and he rolls with the dudes he knows he can trust to look out for him and increase the wealth.
It’s your standard Migos content but just presented differently over a slower, slightly moody track. It isn’t necessarily a groundbreaking single that assures listeners that something incredible is coming, but it’s a solid effort and message. There is little known about the upcoming album, aside from this track, the title, and when it is releasing. Takeoff will surely have some upbeat bops and some solid features whether he sticks to just his Quality Control label or branches out. We shall find out on November 2nd but in the meantime, check out the single “Last Memory.”
