Following their trend of solo outings under the Rae Sremmurd name, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi dropped off two new songs just in time for the holidays. After a year of features and the release of their triple album SR3MM, it’s a nice way for the duo to end things strong and stay in the limelight as the industry gears up for 2019.

Characteristic of their typical sonic lanes, Swae delivers “Christmas at Swae’s” which is a melodic piano ballad about how he didn’t get what he wished for this Christmas. The opening vocals are more stale than his usual chime-like offerings, but the sound improves as the song goes on. He’s yearning for that Christmas love that can warm you up in places hot chocolate can’t. Sadly, the person he wants isn’t under his mistletoe.

Jxmmi takes us to the club with high energy booty shaker “Nothing For Christmas. It opens with a woman telling us the truth about how men want a “bad bitch” but don’t want to assist in everything it takes to make a bad bitch. So Jxmmi runs with it, yelling over the hook “yo bad ass ain’t getting nothing for Christmas!” We’re gonna go out on a limb and say the entire song, but especially the repetition of “freaky girl!” is homage to the legend Uncle Luke.

It’s a fun switch from Swae’s more somber sounding track, and further proof of how dynamic this duo is. Apparently, they have a full offering of Christmas music for fans so time will tell what other directions they go for the holiday and if it’ll be another triple album. Check out these two singles in the meantime.
