I don’t know where to begin with this one. Tyga has arguably been the biggest joke in hip-hop for years now, and yet, he keeps staying in headlines. Usually it’s because of his all-star GF Kylie Jenner, but this time it’s actually for his music—although I’m sure Kylie had a part to play in this too.

As of last night, it was announced that Tyga is officially a signee of G.O.O.D. Music. The same label that houses legends like Q-Tip and Mos Def, is now also home to the man who’s been in the valley AND an alley.

Not only does Tyga greatly pale in comparison to the rest of the roster in terms of musical quality and integrity, but it completely goes off the path of what they were doing. Pusha T has done a tremendous job since being crowned president of G.O.O.D., bringing in young but promising talent like Desiigner, 070 Shake and most recently Lajan Slim, but signing a way-past-his-prime (if he ever had one) Tyga, who turns 27 this year, is a definitive head-scratcher.

More than that, it doesn’t even seem like a worthy investment—his last album flopped, and his financial issues haven’t been any sort of secret. The 2015-released The Gold Album sold a miniscule 2,200 copies first week, and even the album before that was a collab project with Chris Brown, and only sold 65k first week—undoubtedly due to Brown’s cult fanbase.

At this point, Tyga is a yawn, an afterthought, a “he’s still dropping music?” type of artist. Signing him to G.O.O.D. just looks like it was orchestrated by Kylie to keep her wallet safe from Tyga’s clutches, and I don’t see it panning out, thought it will definitely be an interesting story to see unfold.
