One of the most talented producers coming out of Philly, Dougie OTB is the beatmaker behind several hits this past year. Once an artist himself, he made a transition into producing during his teenage years. Most notably, Dougie produced several of Meek Mill's biggest hits, "1942 Flows" and "Save Me." He's one of the first producers to be signed to Meek's Dreamchasers imprint. However, Dougie's production credits can fill a paper, working with acts like Rick Ross, CalBoy, and Jim Jones to name a few.
With Dougie's solo efforts being teased over the past weeks, fans alike may be getting music from the producer himself soon. We got to sit down with the Philly-native as he breaks down hits for G Herbo, Kash Doll, Lil Durk, and several others.
G Herbo - "Hood Legends"
When I made this beat, I just was in my zone. When I touch them samples, my heart really in it, that’s why they usually be the best records that come from me. Me and Herb were on the sprinter coming from the club and I played it for him. He started writing it there and finished like the same night. I sampled Bone Thugs-N-Harmony “Crossroads."
Booka600 - "Bison"
When I made this beat I was kinda going through some things. I wasn’t in the best spot mentally so a lot of my beats was real pain on this vibe. I knew Booka for a little minute, he was on this record I did with Hypno Carlito and OTF Ikey called “Bring Me Down” a couple of years ago. I reached out and let him know I fucked with it and liked his sound we been locked in ever since.
Kash Doll - "Excuses"
The crazy thing is I made this beat so long ago back in 2015. An artist asked me to sample “I Need Love” by LL Cool J and I sampled this by accident cause I got the songs confused. Leonard Brooks hit me for beats and that’s one of the ones that stuck Kash Doll went crazy on that.
G Herbo - "Song Cry"
When I made this I just was in my soulful bag. I loved the sample and wanted to touch it. I did this dolo I sampled the original song where Jay Z got the sample from.
Meek Mill - "Issues"
I was turnt up when I made this beat, I just wanted to mix trap with that East Coast bounce. I used a sample from Cardiak's "Cold Air" pack then added the drums and sent it to Meek. I heard a snippet of him rapping on it afterwards and that was my second major placement.
Lil Durk & OTF Ikey - "How We Living"
I felt energetic, it’s a turnt up track. I just was sending Durk beats and they happened to do that one. I did this one dolo as well.
