Ask anybody in Las Vegas, and they’ll tell you… G. Reed is one of the nicest lyricists in the city and has been for quite some time. For some reason, though, he’s had a hard time breaking through the outside of the city, until this year. Following a slate of a few heralded releases this year, he returns with his new EP, The Winds of Winter.
Featuring rare instrumentals from legendary producers such as Large Professor, Havoc, Alchemist and more, you’d probably consider that kind of production choice to be incredibly ambitious, and it is. But for somebody like Reed, it was just another day, as he effortlessly skated through the project, creating some impressive lyrical content in the process.
As for standouts, the whole project is lyrically substantial, but the best indication of where Reed should be placing his attention comes on the projects outro, “Legacy”. Sounding as polished as anybody over an Alchemist beat, Reed gets a lot of shit off his chest and does it so relatably that it’s hard to not either chuckle through the irony or drop your head in silence a few times.
