It was a busy weekend in the world and we're back with a quick recap to get you caught up and ready for the week ahead. This time around we have stories on Chance's project with AMC, J. Cole's African basketball journey and Joe Freshgoods recent 7-11 takeover plus more, all below.
Chance The Rapper Announces 'Magnificent Coloring World' Movie
Chance The Rapper has been pretty quiet these days, save for a collaboration with Wyclef Jean and Vic Mensa earlier this year. Over the weekend he announced his debut film production, Magnificent Coloring World, a theatrical take on his 2016 tour that was a sort of amalgamation of everything he'd done to that point. With animatronics bands, full choirs and reportedly several semis to haul it all around, it was a production on a different scale.
The movie will retain his signature independent streak, as the first movie to be distributed by and artist. It will be put out in conjunction with AMC Theaters.
“As the first individual music artist to distribute a concert film at AMC, Chance continues to break new ground in entertainment, and we are thrilled to bring this incredible event to the big screen at AMC communities around the country,” said Nikkole Denson-Randolph, Senior Vice President of content and strategy and inclusive programming at AMC Theatres. “Chance’s love of not only film, but the communal magic of the cinemas and the shared experience of seeing a film together makes this collaboration even more special.”
The movie will be available this summer.

J. Cole Signs Contract to Play Basketball in Africa
There were rumors of J. Cole giving pro basketball a shot even before he infamously missed that dunk at the All-Star game. But it seems Cole is making dreams reality once again as he reportedly has inked a contract with Rwanda Patriots BBC in the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League, according to The Undefeated.
Cole has toyed with the idea for a while and raised eyebrows last year when he posted several videos of him working out that boasted an impressive jumper. Don't forget he walked on at St. John's before pursuing music
Now, we'll get to see how it looks for real. He's already on his way to Rwanda to play in the 12-team league and after quarantining will play the Nigeria River Hoopers in their first game.
That wasn't all Cole had up his sleeve though. He also announced the release of his documentary: "Applying Pressure: The Off-Season" which you can check out below.
Joe Freshgood Takes Over 7-11 In Latest Collab
It seems like no one has moved the needle more for what independent artists can do when workign with brands as much as Joe Freshgoods. Let's not forget he was the original one to do a McDonald's line before Travis Scott. This week he unveiled his latest work, a fully in-depth collaboration with 7-11 titled "Brainfreeze SZN" that includes merchandise of course, as well as store takeovers and more.

Dude's been busy in 2021, already dropping off a Converse collection that included two shoes and sweatshirts and sweatpants among other items. His ability to bring people and corporations alike into his world is always impressive and this latest one is the most recent win in a string of them.
Head over to Joe's site to check out the full line and get a chance to cop it for yourself. The first drop is May 13 at 7:11 PM ET and the follow-up will be on May 27 at 7:11 PM ET.
Jay Z Enters The NFT Space
At this point, what space hasn't Jay Z entered yet? Having just sold off Tidal to Jack Dorsey for $302 million, Jigga's announced a foray into the NFT space by investing into Bitski, a San Francisco startup that focuses on helping companies gain NFT branding. He invested as part of his Marcy Venture Partners and the total put in so far is around the $20 million mark.

Bitski specializes in creating NFT storefronts and has reportedly raised $23.4 million to date. It seems like the perfect marriage of worlds for an artist that straddled the analog and digital eras and has been shrewd when in future-leaning tech such as Tidal and others. With NFTs looking like th e next big thing, Jay Z seems to have his giner on the pulse between tech and art. Plus, he has to putdo Nas' Coinbase cash-in right?
