Mooski, the viral sensation out of Opp, Alabama, has been making waves on the internet for over a year. After his breakthrough hit single, "Trackstar," blew up on Tik Tok with over 475 million views and over 42 million global streams across all platforms, he instantly became a hometown legend. When asked who hurt him and inspired him to create this hit with a smile on his face and a chuckle he said, “Track Stars” (women). Today, he may be a hometown legend but he’s not necessarily a household name yet, but his music is definitely being heard and his journey has just begun.

The long-awaited visuals for "Trackstar" dropped this month and didn't disappoint anyone. The music video featuring a Coi Leray cameo is about to reach 7 million views and counting within two weeks of its drop. For someone who was working a security gig last February, he has come a long way.

The 23-year-old rising star has a promising future, and with Capital Record signing him earlier this year, the work he has put in is beginning to pay off. He’s currently hard at work hitting the studio everyday perfecting his debut project that's going to take him from Opp to LA.

Run me down through the creation of your hit single, "Trackstar?"

I was just on my way home from work from my security job, and I was just vibing to instrumentals. The producer of Trackstar is Woodpecker. It was a YouTube beat. I was on YouTube clicking through beats, and I wrote the hook and vibed, wrote the verse and took it to Jacksonville, Alabama, and recorded it.

At that point in time, when you wrote "Trackstar," did you have any other music out?

Yeah, but nah, I took all that down. You can't find it nowhere.

How long have you been creating music, and also what type of artist do you consider yourself to be?

I've been making music since I was 13-years-old. I'm an artist that's trying to start something bro, a new wave.

Your love for music, where did that come from?

Man, I don't know, but I always loved music my whole life. It's crazy because I didn't know that I was picking up on things till I got older and started thinking, "Damn, I was picking up on a lot of stuff." As a kid, I use to listen to music, and I knew the whole beat, every adlib, every lyric; that's how much of a music lover I am.

Tell me a bit about coming up in Alabama and the type of music did you grew up on?

Gospel music, and Opp, Alabama, it's a small city. We really just did what we could.

Do you remember the moment when you decided to pursue a career in music?

Yeah, I had just quit my job around October or November, and I started to do music going of faith.

Run me through the transition of how "Trackstar" blew up.

I had written "Trackstar" last February and dropped it in the summer. So I dropped the song in June, and in the first six months, I hit a million, then that same month, I hit a million. I got another million, and it just kept going up by millions from there. It kept going, and I think before I even signed a deal and before it blew up on Tik Tok, I had over 15 million streams, no music video, and no promotion.

How's life treating you since the song blew up? What's changed?

Everything changed. Everything I'm doing now is built around music. So now I get to live that music life every single day. I'm blessed; I love this. I wake up, chill a bit, listen to beats and go to the studio. That's my whole day right there; I don't do much outside of music now.

You've been touring. Tell me about that?

I've been doing these shows. It's been lit. It's been dope. I did a show in my city, and it was dope, probably one of my favorite memories. It felt amazing to see everybody come together.

Tell me about your time in the Marines? Also, is there anything you learned there that intertwined with your music career?

I did four years in the Marine Corps from 2015 to 2019. I loved the Marine Corps. I learned a lot that helped me with my music, like discipline and stricture.

You just linked up with Coi Leray for the music video for "Trackstar" can the people expect a collaboration between you two? Other than that, are there any other artists in the industry you want to link up with?

Yeah, for sure, it's coming. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone right now but Drake and Roddy Ricch.

What's next for Mooski?

Yeah, I'm putting together a debut project, Melodic Therapy for The Broken. No features. It's probably just going to be my first project. I'm going to show the people me.
