Lil Pump, as usual, has had a turbulent few weeks.

Lil Pump is no stranger to controversy. The viral rapper frankly thrives on antics both online and off. That said, you can only play with fire for so long befoere you get burned. Recently the South Florida emcee previewed a snippet of his now released “Butterfly Doors”. Among the first lines out of his mouth on the energetic offering are “Call me Yao Ming, cause my eyes real low”. Following the snippet’s posting, Pump began promptly receiving backlash from fans and peers alike. Notably, Asian-American emcee China Mac spoke out in disgust after hearing the line. While this certainly isn’t the first misguided reference to eyes being low as a result of drug use made in connection to Asian stereotypes, hip hop, and indeed, all music today is being held to a higher level of scurtiny. As rap replaces rock as the most popular genre, we must remeber the kids are watching and immitating every move. While Pump isn’t far removed from the days of his youth, we hope that those around him can guide him in a mature fashion going forward.

The video also releases amid Coachella’s announcment that Gucci Gang (consisting of Pump, Smokepurpp and Gucci Mane) will be performing at this year’s event.
