I find out about new artists every day, but sometimes I’m better at actually tuning in to their music on some days more than others. It doesn’t take much to intrigue me, but when I find out about a unique talent in more ways than one, I know that I have no choice but to check them out. When I was put onto Lil Kapow last week, it was a name that I instantly had lodged in my head because it’s not something that I have come across before, and his name itself is unique.
At the same time, with a name like that, you probably need to have a sound and a style that lives up to the hype, and after checking out some of his music, I knew that Kapow was someone who exceeded my expectations. The song I was told about was his latest release entitled “Murder Song,” and with as aggressive of a title as that, I once again had high hopes that were blown out of the water, so I had to write it up and put some people on.
Produced by avgotdrip, this beat is driven by a sliding, deep bassline coupled with some uncharacteristic percussive elements and some high-pitched whistles of some sort, coming together for a unique and intriguing instrumental that grabbed every last ounce of my attention. When Kapow comes in, his deep voice is what first caught my ear, but it wasn’t long before I realized just how excellent his innovative flow was on this track.
Going into a song with a name and violent cover art like this, I expected some over-the-top screamo style that might’ve been more along the lines of $uicideboy$ more than anything else. Still, to my surprise, this song is a chill, lowkey banger that showcases Kapow’s intricate skills and impressive abilities. Although he’s a new name on my radar, Lil Kapow impressed me with his latest release, “Murder Song,” and I know for a fact that I’m going to keep coming back for more with every new drop that he puts out into the world.
