Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift is like Goku vs. Frieza. Taylor is the battered, gold-haired saiyan that clashes with the out-of-this-world villain, Yeezus. Except in this battle, it’s the horned alien that reigns supreme.
We all know what happened years ago when Kanye so famously (no pun intended) interrupted Taylor during her acceptance speech at the VMAs, claiming that it should’ve gone to his close friend Beyoncé. This spun out of control from there, and has since made for many-a-headline, though the war has finally been won, with the college dropout standing tall in the wake of the sunset.
In case you’ve been living under a rock and missed the last couple of days on social media, Mrs. Kim Kardashian-West outed Taylor for denying that she knew about and was okay with Kanye using her name in his TLOP-featured track “Famous.” After countless denouncements and counter-accusations by T-Swift—who has carefully mastered the art of playing the victim (we’ll get to that later)—KK took to snapchat to share a number of video clips in which Kanye is on the phone with Taylor, and reads her the lines from the song that included her name.
Surprisingly enough, she was super cool with it—and even commended him on calling her beforehand to check off on it. It essentially broke any sort of leg she still had to stand on in this back-and-forth, leaving Mr. West as the victor. While he definitely risked it all and disrespected her greatly some years ago, he has not since gone out of his way to demonize her or further bother her. Finally, when she was about to collect even more bank off of the headlines by playing the in-the-dark victim, her metallic armor was turned to dust like a vampire faced with the slayer, with the stake being snapchat, and Kim K. as Buffy Summers.
At this point, I think most people are tired of this, and given that Taylor was outed as being an inflammatory, false victim, it’s time we all laid this to rest and stop beating a dead horse.
What’s worse is that it couldn’t have come at a worse time, as her now-ex boyfriend Calvin Harris also brought some unfavorable acts of Taylor’s to light in the midst of a slight songwriting scandal.
Basically, Taylor whined about not being a credited writer on “This Is What You Came For,” which currently holds #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. While she wasn’t credited, she also agreed to NOT be credited—as Calvin made sure to clear up in a series of tweets, clarifying that she wanted to be kept incognito.
Taylor’s still trying to grab at straws though, and tried to sued Kanye and Kim for recording ther phone call, which would’ve been illegal since she didn’t know she was being recorded. That being said, she knew she was on speaker phone because the legendary Rick Rubin was also in the room, and interjected on her conversation with West more than once. It all adds up to her looking pretty foolish, and it’s clear that this should be as over as the Drake-Meek Mill beef.
Check, please.
