I’m not exaggerating one bit when I say that this is without a doubt one of my favorite songs of the year.
If you didn’t know, Jon Waltz is an incredible musician from down in Memphis, Tennessee, and finally broke his long silence with a knockout record entitled “Riot.” From the simplistic, melodic production to Jon’s stellar vocals and lyrics, “Riot” is a hit through and through—it truly makes you feel something. To me, “Riot” sounds like sitting around a bonfire on a late, drunken summer night with friends. It has a weirdly nostalgic and warming feel that I just can’t get over.
At the end of the day, I’m not just a writer or scout; I’m a huge fan of music, not any one genre specifically, but anything that moves me. I’ve seldom found artists who can consistently “wow” me, but Waltz has been hitting ’em out the park ever since I first heard him, and I’ve always been impressed—though definitely am more impressed than ever with this joint. It’s clear that he’s a special artist, and “Riot” is a special song.
Just listen, and you’ll see why I firmly believe Jon is on his way to being a lot of people’s favorite artist.
