One of 2020’s most phenomenal breakout stars, Hotboii has released his eagerly awaited new project Double O Baby. With guest spots from Lil Mosey and Toosii, Double O Baby is the Orlando rapper’s first full-length since his acclaimed debut project Kut Da Fan On featuring hit tracks like “Don’t Need Time” and “Goat Talk.”
“I put blood, sweat, and tears into every song,” says Hotboii on the creation of Double O Baby. “This project means a lot to me, and y’all are going to love it.” Read Hotboii's track by track breakdown of his project below.
"The One"
It’s crazy how everything that happened to me happened so fast. The lyrics in this are a reflection of that, especially the line ‘They don’t know how fire I’ve become.’ That’s my favorite because I’ve really come a long way.
"I Don’t Want"
When I make my songs, I freestyle the whole song. This is me speaking on my love life. It kind of hits different and you can tell when you listen to it.
"Out The Mud"
Mosey and I met in a studio a while ago, I guess he wanted to work with me, so we had everyone set it up. I already wrote the song and when he put his verse in it pulled it all together.
"Menace"
This is my favorite song on the project. I don’t usually rap like this. The producer that made this beat, he was trying to get me to mix it up and do different beats and he’d be like Hot get on this get on this and I went in and somehow sounded different. It was hard but it came to me. Everything came to my mind all at once.
"No Limit"
I took my time on this song, it took way longer than most even though I was freestyling. I can’t explain the process, I rhyme everything to the T, it’s a type of art and this one just took longer.
"Out My Reach"
People don’t like to see people winning when they aren’t winning. It ain’t my fault. That’s what this one is about.
"All Of Your Love"
I’m excited for this video to be out. This is a dope feature, I sent Toosii the track and got it back with his verse in it and he went crazy. Made me even more excited for the video. We shot in Miami, and it was only my second time meeting him actually but it’s a vibe.
"Gotta Question"
I like the whole song for this one, I don’t really have a favorite lyric. Every lyric in this song is like a story.
"Picture This"
I feel like fans will relate to this song the most.
"5 Steps Back"
This is kinda how I used to see myself, I take 3 steps forward 5 steps back.
"Left Lonely"
Before I put out a song, I’ll post a snippet to get people excited. This one I knew was going to pop off, I had the most comments, everything on this. Everyone was in my DM’s and wanted to hear the full song. It set the tone for the project and was when I knew for sure it was gonna be huge.
"Malcolm X"
This and “Police Brutality” were the realest for me to record. It’s not fully about Malcolm X it’s about how people are going through it right now.
"Problems (No Rights)"
I did this song and “Police Brutality” back-to-back. Both about my friend Salaythis. I was definitely thinking of him through the whole recording process and it hits deep. Both of them.
"Can’t You See"
This one is real meaningful too, I knew when I was recording it I had to get it right. Everything has to be perfect. Each of my songs tell a story, and this one is supposed to be a story of how much I’ve changed. Like can people see that everything is different, I’m focused now, and this is my actual job. I’m in my bag now, I’m not worried about nothing and nobody.
"Crazy Thoughts"
It’s weird, because in every song, the first lyric ends up being my favorite from the song because it sets the tone. This one’s about a relationship, the ups and downs. The first line “I just wanna feel how I felt when we first met” is my favorite.
"Police Brutality"
Like I said, this and “Malcolm X” were the realest to record. These were both to express to the world that we need CHANGE. People understand the message in this song. #JusticeForSalaythis
