With the success of her single “Trick or Treat”, Jasmine Ortiz was inspired to get very creative with her next single and came up with the concept for “Cherry on Top” during quarantine. Jasmine had long bleach blonde hair and was bored during quarantine that she decided to head to the store to get hair dye. Jasmine purchased a can of rose-gold spray and began dying her hair. As Jasmine began coloring her hair, she ran out of the spray and was left with half-blonde/half-pink hair color. She embraced the look and when her dark roots started to grow in, she felt that her hair looked like Neapolitan Ice Cream. Soon after, Jasmine photoshopped a cartoon cherry on one of her pictures and the concept for “Cherry on Top” came to light.
As Jasmine began the creative process with the lyrics, she really embraced ice cream and cherry-related puns to describe the flirtatious stages of dating. Coming off from a huge hit single reaching over 1.6 Million views on YouTube with “Trick or Treat” that talked about issues people face when being ghosted during dating, Jasmine was inspired to talk about her own personal journey to feel ready to date again.
For this hit single, Jasmine teamed up with Multi-Platinum Producer Trackdilla. As an artist and producer, Trackdilla really used his creativity to bring this song to life. Trackdilla has created top-charting singles for other artists such as 2Chainz, Rick Ross, Flo Rida, Lil Wayne, French Montana, and many more.
“Cherry on Top” is a fun uptempo pop song that takes us on a journey to embrace the stages of dating. Throughout the song, Jasmine reminds us that dating can be fun and does not require a lot of money with activities such as “Netflix and Chill”, walking on the boardwalk, driving down the coast, or simple competitive games such as ring toss or mini-golf.
In the music video for this single, Jasmine goes back in time to an old diner to remind us that dating can be as simple as quality time with one another. Oftentimes dating is perceived as costly when in reality, simple gestures of affection can really go a long way. One thing that Jasmine enjoys is dressing up in costumes. From the “Cherry on Top” shoes, classical hairstyles, and cherry-infused outfits, Jasmine really embraced the song and found ways to get very creative in the music video. Instead of having other people in the video, Jasmine felt it was important to display a couple having fun, flirting with one another, and really embracing the journey.
Going through her own personal journey of being ghosted in a relationship, Jasmine felt it was important to share her emotions in this song and that dating again is healthy when you are ready. For so many that have struggled in 2020 with quarantine or potentially struggled to date because many locations were shut down, Jasmine encourages everyone to think outside of the box when dating. Dating during quarantine required many of us to get creative and find new ways to enjoy one another’s company.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Jasmine recognizes that it is much harder to meet people due to COVID restrictions but encourages people to connect via Zoom, FaceTime, or other platforms to build that connectivity. If you live in a warm climate, Jasmine recommends for couples to take social distancing walks, enjoy picnics outside, reading with one another, or simply enjoying music together.
