“Borrowing” is something that happens a lot in music. A sample, a melody, even lyrics have all been graciously used by musicians over the years. But for every proper homage and credit to influence, there’s countless more artists (especially underground artists) whose creativity is viciously bastardized and taken by bigger artists and championed to the masses.
It seems as though this unfortunate phenomenon has reared its ugly head once more, as Playboi Carti previewed a new song of his that sounded quite similar to a song from another artist we fuck with, P2THEGOLDMA$K.
Wtf up with @playboicarti this straight @P2GOLDMASK song "Nike" pic.twitter.com/fikDAVTWbF

Now, obviously this sounds like a pretty blatant chain snatch, and it’s unfortunate given how much a guy like P2 could gain from having Carti just fuck with him on some music shit. Their respective styles fit together nicely, and their fan bases definitely have some overlap.
We’re not ready to say that Carti purposefully went out of his way to steal from P2, but he’s definitely got some explaining to do given how similar the lyrics and melodies of the two tracks are.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what’s up—but listen to “Nikes” below & enjoy.
