The legendary music festival dedicated to hip-hop really proved itself this year.
Marking the 10 year anniversary of Soundset, they had to celebrate with a stacked lineup including Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, Atmosphere, Playboi Carti, Amine, Denzel Curry, DRAM, Brother Ali, and hip hop legends E40 & TI and many more. The artists at Soundset had a lot of surprises for the 35,000+ fans in attendance, like rap legend Tip “TI” Harris bringing out Detroits newest rising artist Tee Grizzley to perform his hit single “First Day Out” followed by Gucci Mane and Travis Scott performing their song “Last Time,” which made the crowd go nuts. A special and intimate performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill (and yes, she was on time) eased the crowd into the real rage, Travis Scott. As he took the stage for his set it started to storm, which if you know Travis Scotts performances you know that it made his set a hundred times better. From the pyrotechnics to the insane performance given, it was obvious why he closed out the festival.
Soundset isn’t just for music enthusiast, inside the festival contains a fully equipped skatepark that featured an old school car that skaters can grind and jump over. Not enough entertainment? The fest also had a full-blown car show that ends off with a hydraulic contest. Live graffiti paintings and video game tens were also on site. If you didn’t make it out this year we highly suggest you grab a ticket for 2018, it seems to get better and better every year.
We sent our photographer Zach Hauser out to capture some key performances, see photos and videos below.
