“Soft Stud” is the first track of off Portland indie-rock band Black Belt Eagle Scout‘s new album “Mother of My Children.” Immediately the song opens with a rough, punchy guitar rift, which is immediately contradicted by the soft elegant voice of lead singer Katherine Paul. From there, the riff is surrounded by equally punchy drums and a synthesizer that takes the originally gruff instrumental in a completely different, almost spacey direction.

The lyrics are raw and honest. The song reminds me of a late-summer drive with all the windows down and the brisk air slapping my face, and puts me in a trance like state. Everything about this track is peacefully intense and is one of my favorite finds this summer.
