With over 560,000 subscribers and over 155+ million total views, Diverse Mentality may be the landing page for the gossip of the music industry, artists and their music as well as a real-time chronicle accounts of mainstream rap beefs.
Between their in-depth What Happened To series and telling Who Really Won rap beef segments, Diverse Mentality has told the stories of, and recieved co-signs from many of the industries biggest artists and most storied careers of the last decade, including Rich Homie Quan, Lloyd Banks, Mike Jones and more.
In an Instagram post last week, Asylum Records executive Wayno highlighted easily artists of all levels can fall to the background at bigger record labels after painstakingly built their own organic buzzes.
"The problem with these artists is they don't understand these are fortune 500 companies," Wayno weighed in. "When you think of Warner, don't think of Cardi B is at Atlantic, think of the intellectual property of Batman and Green Lantern. You think they give a fuck about streaming?"
Numerous hit-making artists including Grammy Award-winning R&B vocalist T-Pain and former We The Best Music Group frontman Ace Hood have recently echoed similar declarations rooted in the treachery of record deals.
T-Pain's breakout "Buy You A Drank" single spent more than 30 consecutive weekes on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 2007 and Ace Hood's anthemic "Bugatti" hit went platinum in 2013 — yet both artist have experienced, to some degree, what it's like to be burned by a label.
Both Ace Hood and T-Pain have both made considerable come-backs, but their stories represent the up-and-down artists experience, and a larger trend within the industry that YouTube Diverse Mentality began documenting years ago with their What Happened To series.
In fact, Ace Hood actually sampled the episode of Diverse Mentality's What Happened To series detailing his career and actually featured a sound bite from the host and founder Quake's reporting for the intro to his 2019 Body Bag 5 mixtape. Years before Ace's two-hour tell-all Drink Champs interview, Diverse Mentality chronicled the Broward rapper's meteoric rise, personal losses and public split from DJ Khaled.
T-Pain co-signed his What Happened To episode last year and applauded the synopsis of his early beginnings under Akon's Convict Music imprint all the way through his financial crisis and 2017 re-emergence saga and subsequent Oblvion album.
