Today’s Thursday and there isn’t a tremendous amount going on in the world of hip-hop. Let’s take a look back in time at rap gems of yesteryear, today highlighting a surprisingly dope Rap City freestyle from So So Def’s Jermaine Dupri and J-Kwon.
For the kids out there, J-Kwon was the St. Louis genius behind 2004 club anthem “Tipsy”.
Also, because I’m all about hard-hitting journalism, here are a few little-known facts about J-Kwon aka Jerrell C. Jones.
Then:
Now:
1. His Mom was lit. Kwon quoted her as saying the following to MTV,
“I was in the ninth grade already when I was 12,” he recalled. “My mama
was like, ’Look, dog, you either gonna do this school thing or you
gonna do this rap thing. But if you gonna do this rap thing, you’re
gonna make it happen, not me.’ ”
2. J-Kwon let loose a diss track aimed at Pusha T and Odd Future in retaliation for their disses on him on Push’s “Only You Can Tell It” and Odd Future’s “Rella”. Check out 2013’s “Pushing The Odds” below.
DO YALL REMEMBER J-KWON? PROLLY NOT. BUT ANYWAY HE MADE A DISS SONG TOWARDS ODD FUTURE AND I AM SO FUCKING STOKED
