Tune into Zac Chase.

The title I wrote has to do with both the chorus in Zac Chase‘s “Talk To Me,” but also the epic cadence switch in verse 2. It catches you off guard and it’s like “whoa, how did he get there?” It’s the climax of an overall solid offering by the quiet kid from Athens, Georgia.

Unique isn’t fair to label his flow as, because many have unique flows. It’s the way he rides along the beat, his distinct voice, and pronunciation that set him apart. He attributes his inspirations to Mac Miller, JID, Saba, and EarthGang but by no means is he a copycat. He finds his way into pockets that many don’t, and puts his creative brain on full display.

“You’re gonna say it’s your year but I got the calendar right here” is a cocky, fun flex. The track overall gives off a sense of pure joy in the entire process of creating it. The beat is reminiscent of a 90s New York sound, which only tells me Chase is a deferent act who recognizes where the craft he loves evolved from. Many don’t try to tackle the boom bap sound when there are trap drums and hi-hats galore, but Zac appealed to the nostalgia of music lovers.

This is his first single of 2019, after a busy 2018. He released EP Something Concrete, and singles “Fingertips,” “Whole Damn Day” and “Cliche.” He’s got a bubbling local following, bringing different musical energy out of the area. I believe with consistency and continued improvement, he can burst elsewhere.

Tap into “Talk To Me” and be on the lookout for what else he’s got coming.
