Traditionally, New York City is always praised for the lyrically gifted rappers that have sprouted from the five boroughs. Despite this reputation, the birthplace of Hip-Hop is responsible for a lot of sub-genres and genius music. One of those guys is Queens native, Deem Spencer, who drops off his amazing new project, Pretty Face.
Immediately standing out at first glance — okay, I’m lying, I read about it — you’ll notice that the tracklist reads out as a sentence:
”Really, I Been Tryna Tell Shorty How Beautiful Shorty Is To Me But Shorty Not Tryna Hear It From Me.”
At 12-tracks, the genesis of Pretty Face is essentially those words right above. Spencer uses the album to creatively croon about lost love, over some ridiculously funky Lo-Fi production. Standing out among the project are without a doubt the two tracks, “Is” and “Tryna Tell,” as these two songs bring together the best qualities of the young artist.
