Skateboarding’s influence on rap and music is undeniable. One of the many pivotal figures in shaping skateboarding culture for decades has been Thrasher Magazine editor Jake Phelps. It is with a heavy heart that we inform readers that the iconic personality has passed away at the age of 56. Jake was the editor at the popular magazine for 26 years and lived the life of a die-hard skate-rat to the core. Phelps was famously quoted in 2016 when Thrasher’s logo and the brand became popularized as saying “We don’t send boxes to Justin Bieber or Rihanna or those fucking clowns”, continuing that “The pavement is where the real shit is. Blood and scabs, does it get realer than that?”. Phelps’ death has left a community at a loss for words following the tragic passing of a man revered by his peers. While the cause of death remains unknown, we will continue to update this story as we learn more.
Rest in peace to a legend.
