Thee Oh Sees are a must listen for any fans of prog or heavier garage rock.

San Francisco band Thee Oh Sees have created quite the expansive catalog of LPs in their over a decade of existence, and this has led to a great deal of experimentation and variety in the sonics that they have created, and their first single of 2019 does lead in a somewhat unexpected direction for a band that has been relatively quiet this year. “Henchlock” is a funkier, less noisy, prog-rock release that could perhaps offer a glimpse into the direction the band wishes to head with their next record.

Dwyer’s vocals are drifting and warbling, with a considerable amount of autotune and post-recording work having been done to them, but this is by no means uncommon practice for the band. I am impressed with John Dwyer and the rest of the group’s consistent ability to innovate and experiment with new sounds while keeping the band’s artistic integrity and classic Oh Sees sentiment in the music.
