As an artist, the lifestyle you live has to be at least semi-conducive to the one you portray in your music. You don’t have to actively be a thug, but at least have accurate war stories. You can be married now, and croon about a past life of promiscuity, but at least have the receipts. That’s why when I ran into Vegas native Christian Kuya and his collective, Cuzzi Gang, it was highly apparent that he lived what he wrote. On his new single, “Don’t Dubb”, he proves that authenticity yet again.
Produced by Xavi, “Don’t Dubb” is a bit slow compared to the more energetic releases from Kuya, but it’s one of his best. Crooning over ambient, yet highly effective production, Kuya goes on about a night he’s hoping goes according to plan, but that’s all reliant on who’s picking up the phone. Utilizing his solid vocal range and knack for fitting melodies, Kuya makes for a very good and replayable single.
