StaySolidRocky is not another rapper he’s an artist, instead of making rap music he makes music, and instead of being just an artist he’s a human being first and refuses to be anyone but himself which separates him from being compared to others. With the early success of his single “Party Girl” to the release of his debut EP, Fallin. Rocky looks to not let his most successful single defy his career, but to continue proving that he’s more than just any other or another artist with a Billboard-charting single, but an artist who plans to make an impact on all platforms. To get more intel about Rocky on his early beginnings, plans for the future, and on who he is as a person rather than just an artist. Be sure to read through our full Q+A interview further discussing Rocky about not only his career but his life as well.

Q: For those who don’t know, who is StaySolidRocky? How did you come up with the name and your initial start in music?

A: My initial start in music came from me just freestyling ever since I was little. Then as I got older, I just started writing and got in the studio. I don't know what exactly made me fall in love with it but it’s always been something I’ve always been doing. My name is StaySolidRocky which StaySolid means forreal to just stand up for what you believe in no matter what you believe in, no matter what you go through, you gotta stay solid.

Q: Originally you were born in Texas but raised in South Carolina and Virginia. What was it like Based on growing up in musically centric states, what was it like, and were there any specific artists that had an influence on your career from where you’ve grown up?

A: It was different because we had all different types of music when I was growing up with my mom. She listened to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony heavy. I mean when I was growing up I listened to mostly Wayne. He’s the king of the south, everybody loves Wayne.

Q: From linking with the late XXXTentacion’s manager, Solomon Sobande it led you to sign with Columbia Sony Records. Can you further explain your relationship with him and your label based on how it’s benefited your career?

A: Solomon man, that’s my dog, it's all love beyond the music for real and Columbia been showing me love since day 1 so you know I’m rocking with them, trying to get another mixtape out as well.

Q: Despite the unfortunate events we’ve seen in 2020, a major milestone for you was your single "Party Girl", peaking at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100. How has the success of the song impacted your career?

A: It plugged me in with some pretty cool people like I’ve talked to some pretty cool people and it just gives me motivation like this is something real so we gotta do this now.

Q: Regarding the success of the song, you linked up with Lil Uzi Vert for the official remix. How did the collaboration with him come about and what was it like working together?

A: Uzi heard it on Soundcloud and he loved the song and it was dope, it was fire, had the energy going.

Q: Aside from Lil Uzi, you’ve gotten recognition from Charli D'Amelio and Kylie Jenner both playing your song on their social accounts, what was your initial reaction when noticing that the song has been growing?

A: When I saw that, I was like damn they really heard my voice before like that’s crazy. That just means that they heard the song, listened to it, liked it and they posted so it just means a lot to me. I was in the studio when I found out so I had to keep it cordial, I was like oh shit. I told everybody and they couldn't believe it either so we just got right back to business.

Q: In July of this year you released your debut 7-track project EP titled, Fallin. Throughout the EP you showcase a much more emotional side in your music. Can listeners expect more of the same from you in your future projects and releases?

A: Most definitely it will be more emotions and vulnerable moments. I put my heart in my music I say what's going on around me, I tell stories for other people and about other people, you know what I am saying you’re always going to get everything.

Q: Was there any main inspiration or specific direction that you had when composing Fallin. Such as any main focal subjects, influences, specific visions, etc.

A: Nah forreal we just wanted to put some songs that we already had out, in one place. I feel like with my next one, there will be a bigger message behind it. Fallin had good music, don’t get me wrong, it just didn’t have a one focus message.

Q: Rather than having a specific sound to you define your music the variations and types that you express whether it’s sad, aggressive, or cheerful have been the main substance of your songs. Do you have a specific method or process when composing your music?

A: I just play beat after beat after beat until I find the one that I like. Once I find something that I like, I just get to writing and try to think about what I want to talk about, what I want people to hear me say, and then I just go from there.

Q: Aside from your composition process, instead of being defined by your music you define it by who you are not only as an artist but as a human being. Is there any specific message you look not only to carry not only as an artist but as a person?

A: I just be trying to move with morals and principles and just do right.

Q: Along with that, rather than making music for a specific audience, you focus on making it for a specific purpose. Can you further elaborate on the legacy and impact you look to have in your career?

A: I am not really trying to leave no impact, I’m just documenting my life. When I get older, I’m going to go into my office and be like damn, this shit really happened. I really wrote about this situation, just a reflection moment.

Q: That’s so dope, so what’s next for StaySolidRocky, is there anything planned that listeners can expect in any upcoming dates.

A: My new track “Demons” dropped on Friday, definitely dropping some more videos in the meantime, “Out The Oven” coming soon. I’m trying to get another mixtape out, we have lots of plans. We are really just trying to grind and grow from here.
