Don’t sleep on Shope.

Quietly, there seems to be an emergence of Afro-pop, dancehall and “global beats.” Artists like Popcaan spring to mind as recent ambassadors of it, but, perhaps we should be paying attention to a North American artist by the name of Shopé.

Originally from Nigeria, Shopé traveled to Canada at a young age, and he’s since made his home there making music and blending cultures from the disparate parts of the world. Having won CBC’s Searchlight, Canada’s national talent competition, this year, he’s been able to gain heaps of momentum, and, today, we’re receiving a fruit of that labor in new track “When You Land.”

As alluded to, the track carries a global overture, and it is beat-driven, poppy energy makes it accessible to all. This is a work you’d expect dances to be made to, and its conspicuously positive aura ensures you’ll love it the moment you press play.
