Big Sean just dropped his long-awaited single with the late Nipsey Hussle titled “Deep Reverence.” Previewed back in March 2020 via IG Live, the record is produced by Hit-Boy and many fans became familiar with the record during a beat battle with fellow producer Boi-1da. "Deep Reverence" finds the pair trading verses about leaving a mark on the world and ultimately, pulling themselves out of this hole while giving others guidance.
“I’ve been going back listening to music that impacted me growing up, you know, songs I hear on the radio every day but I didn’t even realize was only popping in Detroit,” he stated in the album’s announcement trailer. “It feels like a whole new energy in the city, you know? It’s inspiring to watch — to the point it inspired me to go harder than ever. It’s like the phoenix rising out the ashes.”
"After what happened to Nipsey, I reached out to Kendrick / It wasn't even no real issues there to begin with / Lack of communication and wrong information / From people fueled by their ego, it's like mixin' flames with diesel," Sean raps in reference of his conflict with Kendrick Lamar. The two had fallen out with each other following Kendrick's controversial "Control" verse.
