Airplane James returns.

One of my favorite perks about being a writer is the fact that artists send me music early. For whatever reason, having a dope record six-weeks before it drops, makes you feel like the next Jimmy Iovine. One artist who always keeps me laced is L.A. native Airplane James. After blessing me with an incredible record in late 2018, he finally steps into the spotlight, and releases his new single, “FWU”.

Co-Produced by two of the city’s finest in Saltreze & SoundsLikeTC, “FWU” is a soulful record that follows the love of two East L.A. residents who are attempting to figure out what the other wants, why not really knowing what they want themselves. Featuring Sham106 with a dope guest verse, the whole team held their own weight on this one, creating for a perfect single.

But still, the star of the show is Plane. Taking all of the qualities that made him an Artist to Watch on his previous releases, James bottles them up and unleashes them with a vengeance on, “FWU”. There’s the soulful crooning — okay, begging — he does on the final verse, his ridiculous storytelling, and wordplay throughout the first one and of course, the well-written hook that’s an early candidate for best of the year.

In short, “FWU” is the best single to drop this week (sorry, .Paak) and should be treated accordingly. You can pre-order his upcoming EP, Eastside Special for its 3/29 release, and tap in with the single below. Get familiar with Airplane James and Diamond Lane Music Group.
