Aaron May is a star.

Aaron May might still be 17 years old, but it’s clear that the Houston rapper is destined for stardom with his latest buzzing album Chase. The 11-track album shows incredible versatility, as Aaron tells his story while crafting catchy choruses over his self-produced beats – basically, what can’t this kid do? The comparison can be made to very early J Cole in terms of his multi-leveled skill, but Aaron’s lyrics get coated in subtle, smooth Southern twang. Chase feels like the precursor to what might eventually be Aaron’s version of his Friday Night Lights type of blow-up.

In a current landscape that is so single-heavy, Aaron delivers with tracks “Let Go” and “I’m Good Luv, Enjoy”, but both of these singles – which are strong on their own – become even stronger when placed next to the remainder of Chase’s tracklist. Painting pictures of young love (“One For Me”), the struggles of growing up (“Closed Hands”), Aaron has a lot on his heart and mind to rap about, and it’s very easy to latch on to those topics through this album.

I’d call this album an absolute must listen, and Aaron May rockets to the top of my unofficial “Artists To Watch” list for 2019. Check out Chase below.
