We’re just about done with 2016, and it has inarguably been one of the best years for music in a long time. From the albums and mixtapes to all the new faces, the ever-evolving aspect of technology in music and more, 2016 has been a benchmark year for many.

With only a couple of months left, there are still a handful of projects that have yet to drop that you should definitely be looking out for. We’ve put together a list of ones we’re most excited for, with new and old names making up the class, and one thing is clear—there are some exciting months ahead.

Kevin Abstract // American Boyfriend

From his one-of-a-kind sound to his creative vision, Kevin Abstract is one of my favorite artists, and he’s preparing the release of his newest album American Boyfriend. He’s built up a massively strong fan base through his own solo records and as a part of the wave-making boyband Brockhampton, and I’m very much looking forward to the MTV1987 follow-up, which is slated for a November 18th release.

Ab-Soul // TBA

With Lance Skiiwalker’s TDE debut dropping tomorrow, the next name up to drop an album is looking to be Ab-Soul. Following a blazing release in “Huey Knew” featuring Da$h, Soulo sounds like he’s in prime form and ready to bounce back after an underwhelming showing on his These Days… album, which I still maintain is more of a concept album and less of a “here’s the best possible project I could make with my skill set.” Regardless, Ab-Soul has a number of eyes and ears on him as he tries to add another classic to his discography.

Childish Gambino // Awaken, My Love

Childish Gambino’s rollout for Awaken, My Love has been on another level of intricacy and creativity, and it might just be the most intriguing album on this list off of that aspect alone. From the PHAROS app to his recent three-day multimedia festival in Joshua Tree, fans have already been enthralled in everything about the album without a single track being released to the public. It’s no doubt innovative and creative as fuck, and I can’t wait to hear what the album is like.

Pusha T // Darkest Before Dawn

Pusha T has been one of my favorite rappers since the Clipse days, and is gearing up for another solo release in Darkest Before Dawn. He’s had a helluva year outside of his own releases, and he’s simply been tearing it up since being appointed the president of G.O.O.D. Music. Aside from a botch-ass signing in Tyga, Pusha has brought youth to an aging roster through the signings of Desiigner, 070 Shake and Lajan Slim. However, he will soon be taking a step back from his executive role to drop an album of his own, and if singles like “Drug Dealers Anonymous” and “H.G.T.V.” are any indication, Darkest Before Dawn will be in the conversation for album of the year.

Future // TBA

This one is more of a guess, but given that we haven’t gotten a project from him since February’s EVOL, I think it’s safe to say that he’s got something up his sleeve to send off 2016 the right way. While he has been busy touring with Drake, the Summer Sixteen Tour has been suspended for the rest of the year as Drizzy nurses his ankle back to health. It’ll resume in late January, giving Future the perfect pocket to drop some new music in the next two and a half months. Not only would it juice up the tour that much more, but would allow him to pick up some serious momentum as we head in 2017, something he definitely didn’t lack when 2016 began.

Playboi Carti // TBA

Chance The Rapper gets praised more than anyone else for making waves without a label, but what Playboi Carti has been able to do in just a couple of years without any sort of label or major financial backing is impressive as hell. He’s made masterful use of the internet and Soundcloud, while also scarcely being in the public eye himself. It’s a similar recipe as Kendrick Lamar, but a whole other world and fan base altogether. Leaks usually hurt an artist’s buzz leading up to a project, but the hundreds of leaks from Carti have only added fuel to the fire, and the consensus amongst fans is that his debut mixtape is going to be crazy. From his A$AP affiliations to now having Interscope behind him, Carti is set up to run shit for awhile. So, sit back and enjoy, or stay out of the way.

Post Malone // Stoney

Stoney is a crucial album for Post Malone. Not only is it his debut studio album, his first project under Republic Records, and is riding a delayed release, but it will also define whether or not he’ll remain the raw singer we all fell in love with on “White Iverson,” or if he bridges the gap between urban and pop music, taking the more commercial route. Post is just getting off tour with Justin Bieber, and also dropped a record with the young legend leading up to this project, portending a more pop path for the Dallas native’s debut. At the end of the day, his sound can go in so many directions, and I’m excited to see where he takes us.

MF DOOM & Ghostface Killah (DOOMSTARKS) // TBA

One time for the OGs! While there’s tons of new faces on this list, I couldn’t not include Ghostface and the masked one’s teased DOOMSTARKS album. MF DOOM has been majorly quiet in recent years outside of his work with Bishop Nehru, but rumors are swirling that he’s ready to come back in a major way with Ghostface Killah on a brand-new album from the two. Aside from the teaser single “Lively Hood,” details on the project have been skim so far, but holy hell I cannot wait for this album.

In the meantime, check out some flicks of DOOM officiating a recent wedding:
